Discover Yoga's practices - what you can do

The word for posture in Sanskrit, India's ancient holy language, is Asana which translates as "to be".

The asanas were designed to prepare the body for Pranayama (yogic breath control) and for sitting in meditation, the highest goal of yoga. Not only do the postures help tone and cleanse all the systems of the body, but your sense of mental and emotional well-being improves on all levels.

Traditionally, yoga was practiced before or at sunrise when the atmosphere is still and the mind is peaceful. However, yoga can be practiced at any time of the day.

Yoga practiced in the mornings gives you lots of energy to enjoy all the day has to offer. Your body maybe quite stiff after sleeping all night, so we warm up slowly.

Practicing in the afternoon is a different experience altogether. Your body is now warmed up and you will find a lot less resistance to posture.

Evening Yoga is a beautiful way to complete the day. Relaxation postures can help you wind down at the end of the day and calm a busy mind, or more dynamic postures can help restore much needed vitality.
